The History of Move and Improve

Starting in 1997, with grant support from the Maine Bureau of Health, we have seen the Move and Improve program increase in the number of individuals who sign up and complete the program, as well as an increase in the number of Sites that participate (i.e. work, community, school, church, etc.). While Move and Improve started as a regional program, Move and Improve has been embraced by numerous individuals throughout the state of Maine and abroad.

The program has weathered a number of changes over the past thirteenyears. One of the most significant changes occurred in 2003 when the program transitioned from a “paper and pencil” program to an “online” program. This particular change proved to be a huge success for our participants. Another significant change had to do with the introduction of the “optional” theme concept to Move and Improve that was introduced in 2005. The theme concept has enjoyed a lot of success especially in our school sites.

One thing in life that is consistent is change and we are certainly looking forward to the changes that have been implemented into this program this year as they should prove to be beneficial to all!  As we enter year 14, we are looking forward to moving and improving together.
